2024 Events for New Students
The following is a list of events and opportunities to help new students prepare for their first day on campus and beyond.
River Hawk Day
This in-person event will be held on Friday, June 21, 2024, from 9:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
River Hawk Day is the premier summer opportunity for enrolling students to explore campus, meet their peers and to connect with campus resources to help both students, and families/supporters, prepare for a successful transition to Susquehanna in the fall.
The full schedule will be released and available on this website by May 1. Register today by clicking the box below.
An example of the types of sessions offered for both enrolling students and families/supporters are:
- Being Academically Successful
- Engaging with Career Development Center Staff from Day One
- Navigating the Residential and Roommate Experience
- What it Means to Commute
- Staying Connected and Letting Go (specifically for families/supporters)
- SU Trivia and How to Get Involved
- Financial Aid and Billing
Attendees will have the opportunity to take a photo with Benny, our beloved mascot, create some airbrush SU apparel or decorations for your residence hall home, and take a spin around a 360-degree rotating photo booth with family, new friends, or maybe even Benny!
Online Orientation
Online orientation modules are COMING SOON!
All incoming students are required to complete the online orientation modules by Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2024. This virtual, video-based program will take no more than two hours to complete and has a built-in memory function so you can move through the orientation at your own pace.
The link for online orientation will be accessed through your River Hawk Portal.
We anticipate the Online Orientation modules will be available by May 1. Please check your email, the River Hawk Portal and this website all of which will be updated as soon as the modules are available.
Students should only access the online orientation through your River Hawk Portal, as you will need to log in to have your progress tracked and register completion. Your checklist will reflect your completion within two business days.
Parents, families and supporters will be invited to access the orientation using a guest link.
Take Flight: Orientation & Welcome Week
Take Flight: Orientation is a welcome program that begins Thursday, Aug. 22, 2024. After your family departs, you’ll attend information sessions and social activities, meet faculty and your academic advisor, participate in a day of volunteer service, connect with other students and more!
Welcome Week starts on your first day of classes, Monday, Aug. 26, 2024 and includes a variety of social and educational activities surrounding your classes during your first week at SU.
The 2024 Take Flight Orientation Schedule will be made available by early August.
Move-In Day
New students will arrive on campus on the following dates:
- Monday, Aug. 19, 2024 | Pre-Flight Participants Move-In
- Thursday, Aug. 22, 2024 | Move-In Day for New Students
Expect to be greeted by members of the O-Team, sporting bright orange shirts, who will help you get checked in and guide you to your residence hall. Be sure to reference our Packing for College Checklist as you prep for move in!

Convocation
New students and your families are invited to attend an opening convocation, our annual ceremony to open the new academic year, and a welcome from the President, Provost, and members of the Board of Trustees.
